Gwybodaeth diogelwch

The lower half of the course is on marked field paths or track .the upper half is on unmarked open fell path following a wall to within the last half kilometre of the summit. Getting to the summit and back to the wall can be challenging in sub100m visibility/precipitation. Minimum nav skills would include being confident at identifying and following a south east course until you meet the wall again. In good weather the route is obvious. If you get lost and cannot re-find the wall the situation is severe with a huge area of featureless very rough moorland and sparsely populated valleys. Then good navigation skills and mountain craft would be essential. Becoming immobilised off-route would be life-threatening. In good weather this is a suitable fell race for novices confident of covering the distance but with little fell-running experience. However, in November there is limited daylight and often poor weather and significant mountain experience is then needed to assess whether you are safe to participate. Seek advice from the race organiser if unsure. Entry fees can be refunded at the race if you decide it is not safe for you to compete. GPS route finding is permissible only for safety but must be reported and will result in disqualification from the race( better than not getting down!). If retiring at any stage the race route provides the quickest and safest descent. Respect the natural environment and the landowners by staying clear of livestock, not climbing any wall or fence, (use the marshalled stile and gates only). Failure to do so will result in disqualification. Waterproof jacket overtrousers map and compass and whistle are essential kit, bring hat and gloves too as they may be mandatory in bad weather.
